style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Marco Polo<\/strong> (1254-1324 AD) was a <strong>merchant<\/strong> from <strong>Venice<\/strong> who, at age 17, traveled with his <a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/ABC_logo_120x80.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"alignleft wp-image-249 size-full\" src=\"data:image\/gif,GIF89a%01%00%01%00%80%00%00%00%00%00%FF%FF%FF%21%F9%04%01%00%00%00%00%2C%00%00%00%00%01%00%01%00%00%02%01D%00%3B\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/ABC_logo_120x80.jpg\" alt=\"ABC Legal Docs logo\" width=\"120\" height=\"80\" \/><\/a>father and uncle on the <strong>Silk Road<\/strong> to Asia and met Mongol ruler <strong>Kublai Khan<\/strong>.\u00a0 Polo served as an envoy, special messenger and tax collector.\u00a0 He returned to Venice in 1295, after 24 years, with a fortune in gemstones, sewn into the lining of his coat.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Three years later he was captured and imprisoned during a war with rival city-state <strong>Genoa<\/strong>.\u00a0 While in prison, he dictated the stories of his travels to a cellmate, writer <strong>Rustichello<\/strong> of Pisa, which formed the book, &#8220;<strong>The Travels of<\/strong> <strong>Marco Polo<\/strong>&#8220;, describing the cities, cultures, politics, wealth and technology of the Far East.\u00a0 The book described the use of paper money, coal, eyeglasses, and a postal system using relays of foot runners and horse riders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was released from prison in 1299 and returned home to <strong>Venice<\/strong>.\u00a0 He married and had three daughters.\u00a0 In 1323, he became ill and was confined to bed.\u00a0 Physician&#8217;s treatments were not successful.\u00a0 On January 9, 1324, Polo was on his <strong>deathbed<\/strong>.\u00a0 Polo&#8217;s family summoned <strong>Giovanni Giustiniani<\/strong>, who was a <strong>priest<\/strong> and <strong>notary<\/strong> from San Procolo, to write and certify his <strong>last will<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Marco_Polos_Will\"><\/span>Marco Polo&#8217;s Will<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His <strong>will<\/strong> divided his assets among his wife and daughters, the church, the monastery of San Lorenzo, where he wished to be buried, and various guilds and fraternities where he was a member.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Polo ordered 220 <strong>soldi<\/strong> to be paid to <strong>Giovanni Giustiniani<\/strong> for his work as a <strong>notary<\/strong> in preparing the <strong>will<\/strong>, and for his prayers.\u00a0 The <strong>will<\/strong> was not signed by Marco Polo but was validated by the &#8220;<strong>signum manus<\/strong>&#8221; rule of that time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>testator<\/strong> only had to <strong>touch<\/strong> the document to make it lawful.\u00a0 The <strong>notary<\/strong> reported that <strong>Marco Polo<\/strong> was weakened by disease of the body, but for the grace of God, was <strong>sane<\/strong>.\u00a0 The <strong>last will<\/strong> and <strong>testament<\/strong> of Marco Polo is one of the valuable documents in the collection of the national library in <strong>Venice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Christopher Columbus<\/strong> carried a copy of <strong>Marco Polo&#8217;s book<\/strong> on his journey to the New World.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Marco_Polo_in_North_America\"><\/span>Marco Polo in North America<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Note: Some stories and documents claim that <strong>Marco Polo<\/strong> reached North America 200 years before <strong>Columbus<\/strong>, by traveling to the Aleutian Islands of <strong>Alaska<\/strong>.\u00a0 Marco Polo&#8217;s daughters claimed his letters described encounters with faraway people who lived on a peninsula of seals, wore sealskin, lived on fish, carried lances and lived in houses under the earth.\u00a0 Ancient <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/ancient-chinese-writing-shang-dynasty-1600-bc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chinese<\/a><\/span> maps<\/strong> showed the land of North America, known as <strong>Fusang or Fu Sang<\/strong>.\u00a0 On his deathbed, Marco Polo said, \u201cI did not tell half of what I saw.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
