\"Notaries<\/a>Notaries Public Act of 1876<\/h1>\n

The Notaries Public Act of 1876 is found in the Statutes at Large, 44th Congress, 1st Session, Chapter 304,
\nAn act to provide for the appointment of commissioners<\/strong> for taking\u00a0<\/em>affidavits<\/strong>, &c., for the courts<\/strong> of the United States.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United\u00a0States of America in Congress assembled<\/em>,<\/p>\n

That notaries public<\/strong> of the several States, Territories, and the District of Columbia be, and they are hereby, authorized to take depositions<\/strong>, and do all other acts<\/strong> in relation\u00a0to taking testimony<\/strong> to be used in the courts<\/strong> of the United States,\u00a0take acknowledgments<\/strong> and affidavits<\/strong>, in the same manner and with the\u00a0same effect as commissioners<\/strong> of the United States circuit court<\/strong> may now\u00a0lawfully take or do.
