class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Minors in Colorado may apply for a <strong>driver&#8217;s permit<\/strong> at age 15 and must be at least age 16 for a <strong>driver&#8217;s license<\/strong>.\u00a0 Minor and adult non-drivers may apply for a Colorado <strong>ID card<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Passport\"><\/span>Passport<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">U.S. <strong>passports<\/strong> are issued to <strong>adults<\/strong> over age 16, or to <strong>minors<\/strong> under age 16.\u00a0 There are different rules and fees for minors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With all notarized documents, the signer must be <strong>aware<\/strong> of the nature and purpose of the document and must sign <strong>voluntarily<\/strong>.\u00a0 The notary checks for <strong>awareness<\/strong> and <strong>willingness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The minor can demonstrate <strong>awareness<\/strong> by explaining the purpose of the document.\u00a0 If the minor does not appear to understand the nature and purpose of the document, the notary may <strong>refuse<\/strong> to notarize.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Children_Under_Age_10\"><\/span>Children Under Age 10<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CRS 13-90-106, <strong>Who may not testify<\/strong>, states that children under <strong>age 10<\/strong> may not serve as <strong>witnesses<\/strong> if they appear <strong>incapable<\/strong> of receiving just impressions of the facts respecting which they are examined or of relating them truly.\u00a0 Children under age 10 may be allowed to serve as witnesses in cases of child abuse or sexual abuse if they appear able to understand and respond appropriately for their age.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Oath_of_Child\"><\/span>Oath of Child<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CRS 13-90-117.5, <strong>Oath or affirmation taken by a child<\/strong>, states that in lieu of an oath or affirmation, any child who testifies in any proceeding pursuant to section 13-90-106 (1) (b) (II) shall be asked the following: &#8220;<strong>Do you promise to tell the truth?<\/strong>&#8220;.\u00a0 The court, in its discretion, may accept any indication of assent to this question by the child.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Age_of_Majority\"><\/span>Age of Majority<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although a <strong>contract<\/strong> in Colorado is not legally binding on a minor under age 18, that is not a reason for a notary to refuse to notarize.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Colorado, the <strong>age of majority<\/strong> is attained when a person is 18 years old.\u00a0 At <strong>age 18<\/strong>, a person may enter into a legal binding <strong>contract<\/strong>, CRS 13-22-101(a).\u00a0 The minimum age to make a <strong>will<\/strong> is age 18, CRS 15-11-501.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Make_Note_of_Age_of_Minor\"><\/span>Make Note of Age of Minor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The minor should satisfactorily prove that he\/she has the <strong>authority<\/strong> to sign.
