<strong>Native American<\/strong> <strong>tribal ID<\/strong> card is also <strong>satisfactory evidence<\/strong> of identification.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span Reservations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Colorado, the Native American population is about 1.1%, so tribal ID is rarely seen.\u00a0 It is more common in southwest Colorado, near <strong>Durango<\/strong> and <strong>Cortez<\/strong>, where there are two <strong>Indian Reservations<\/strong>, for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.southernute-nsn.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Southern Ute<\/strong> <strong>Tribe<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.utemountainutetribe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ute Mountain Ute<\/strong> <strong>Tribe<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 There is also an urban Native American population in <strong>Denver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sand_Creek_Massacre\"><\/span>Sand Creek Massacre<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There was an Indian Reservation in eastern Colorado, for the <strong>Cheyenne<\/strong> and <strong>Arapahoe<\/strong> tribes, but that ended after Colorado soldiers attacked the reservation during the <strong>Sand Creek Massacre<\/strong> of November 29, 1864.\u00a0 The site, in <strong>Kiowa County<\/strong>, east of <strong>Eads<\/strong>, is now a <strong>National Historic Site<\/strong>.\u00a0 November 2014 marked the 150th anniversary of this tragic event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/sand\/\"><strong>Sand Creek Massacre\u00a0<\/strong>site<\/a><\/span> is managed by the <strong>National Park Service<\/strong> in collaboration with the <strong>Cheyenne<\/strong> and <strong>Arapahoe<\/strong> tribes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is still a <strong>Cheyenne County<\/strong> and an <strong>Arapahoe County<\/strong> in eastern Colorado.\u00a0 Other Colorado places named after Indian people or words include <strong>Chipeta Park<\/strong>, <strong>Curecanti<\/strong>, <strong>Kiowa<\/strong>, <strong>Manitou Springs<\/strong>, <strong>Montezuma<\/strong>, <strong>Niwot<\/strong>, <strong>Ouray<\/strong>, and <strong>Saguache<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Navajo_Nation\"><\/span>Navajo Nation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is no <strong>Navajo Reservation<\/strong> in Colorado, but the <strong>Four Corners Monument<\/strong> in southwest Colorado is a <strong>tribal park<\/strong>, managed by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.navajo-nsn.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Navajo Nation<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, based in Arizona.\u00a0 <strong>Navajo Lake<\/strong>, in <strong>Navajo State Park<\/strong>, is in southern Colorado, near <strong>Pagosa Springs<\/strong>, and holds water used for irrigation on the Navajo Reservation in <strong>New Mexico<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Indian reservations, jurisdiction is under <strong>tribal law<\/strong>.\u00a0 There are <strong>tribal courts<\/strong>, <strong>judges<\/strong>, and <strong>police<\/strong>.\u00a0 Some tribes use <strong>tribal notaries<\/strong>, other tribes use <strong>state notaries<\/strong>.\u00a0 The <strong>venue<\/strong> on a tribal document would show <strong>Navajo Nation<\/strong>, for example, rather than a state and county jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ute_Indians\"><\/span>Ute Indians<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Colorado Springs area was once home to the <strong>Ute Tribe<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>El Paso County<\/strong> is named for <strong>Ute Pass<\/strong>, which was the route used for <strong>buffalo migration<\/strong> and <strong>Ute Indians<\/strong> traveling between the eastern plains and the mountains.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tribal_ID_Card\"><\/span>Tribal ID Card<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The top 20 states with the highest percentages of Native American populations are:<br \/>\n1. Alaska 14.8%, 2. New Mexico 9.4%, 3. South Dakota 8.8%, 4. Oklahoma 8.6%, 5. Montana 6.3%,<br \/>\n6. North Dakota 5.4%, 7. Arizona 4.6%, 8. Wyoming 2.4%, 9. Washington 1.5%, 10. Oregon 1.4%,<br \/>\n11. Idaho 1.4%, 12. North Carolina 1.3%, 13. Utah 1.2%, 14. Nevada 1.2%, 15. Nebraska 1.2%,<br \/>\n16. Minnesota 1.1%,<strong>\u00a017. Colorado 1.1%<\/strong>, 18. California 1.0%, 19. Wisconsin 1.0%, 20. Kansas 1.0%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is more likely that <strong>tribal ID<\/strong> cards will be seen in those states.
