CRS 24-72.1-102 defines <strong>Secure and Verifiable Identification<\/strong> (<strong>SVID<\/strong>) as: &#8220;a document issued by a <strong>state<\/strong> or <strong>federal<\/strong> jurisdiction or recognized by the United States government and that is verifiable by federal or state law enforcement, intelligence, or homeland security agencies&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Common_Forms_of_Secure_and_Verifiable_Identification\"><\/span>Common Forms of Secure and Verifiable Identification<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The most common forms of SVID seen by a notary include a current state <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/new-colorado-drivers-license-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>driver&#8217;s license<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, <strong>non-driver ID<\/strong>, <strong>military ID, <\/strong>and <strong>US Passport <\/strong>or<strong> US passport card<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A Native American <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/native-americans-tribal-id\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>tribal ID<\/strong><\/a><\/span> card, issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe, is acceptable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Matricula Consular<\/strong> and <strong>Border Crossing Cards<\/strong> (from Mexico) are not acceptable.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Less_Common_Forms_of_Secure_and_Verifiable_Identification\"><\/span>Less Common Forms of Secure and Verifiable Identification<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Valid <strong>foreign passport<\/strong> with <strong>I-94<\/strong> or valid processed for <strong>I-551<\/strong> stamps (Exception: <strong>Canadian Passport<\/strong> may not have I-94 attached)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valid I-94<\/strong> issued by U.S. Immigration with <strong>L1<\/strong> or <strong>R1<\/strong> status and a valid <strong>Canadian driver&#8217;s license<\/strong> or valid <strong>Canadian identification card<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Valid I-551<\/strong> <strong>Resident Alien<\/strong>\/<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/green-card\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Permanent Resident card (green card)<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 No border crosser or USA B1\/B2 Visa\/BCC cards.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valid I-688<\/strong> <strong>Temporary Resident<\/strong>, I-688B, and I-766 <strong>Employment Authorization Card<\/strong> with intact photo<\/li>\n<li><strong>Certificate of Naturalization<\/strong> with intact photo<\/li>\n<li><strong>Certificate of (US) Citizenship<\/strong> with intact photo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A notary must use <strong>reasonable care<\/strong> to identify the document signer.\u00a0 If the signer is <strong>personally known<\/strong> to the notary, that is acceptable identification.\u00a0 If the signer is not personally known to the notary, the notary must receive <strong>satisfactory evidence<\/strong> of identification to prevent <strong>fraud<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The acceptable forms of identification for use by a Colorado notary are listed in CRS 24-21-507.\u00a0 It includes a form of government identification, not expired by more than one year, that contains a signature or photograph of the individual, and is satisfactory to the notary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Primary ID<\/strong> should contain a <strong>photograph<\/strong> and\/or a <strong>signature<\/strong> of the customer.\u00a0 <strong>Supplemental ID<\/strong> may be used as additional supporting evidence.\u00a0 A <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/credible-witness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>credible witness<\/strong><\/a><\/span> may also be used to identify the signer.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\"
