notarize a document with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>blank spaces<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 This means that the document must be completed before it is notarized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Blank spaces must be <strong>filled in<\/strong>, or if <strong>not applicable<\/strong>, they should be <strong>crossed out<\/strong> or <strong>N\/A<\/strong> should be written in the blank space.\u00a0 The notary should <strong>scan<\/strong> the document for blank spaces and ask the customer to fill them in.\u00a0 The notary must not fill in the blanks for the customer since modifications to the document might be considered as <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/unauthorized-practice-law-colorado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>unauthorized practice of law (UPL)<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Complete_Document\"><\/span>Complete Document<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The document must also be a complete document, with <strong>all pages included<\/strong>, and all <strong>schedules<\/strong> or <strong>exhibits<\/strong> attached.\u00a0 The notary should scan the document to check that all pages are included, and look for any reference to any attached schedules or exhibits.\u00a0 The notary should make a note of the total <strong>number of pages<\/strong> in the <strong>notary journal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A primary role of the notary is to prevent <strong>fraud<\/strong>.\u00a0 Notarizing a document with blank spaces or missing pages makes it easier to commit fraud.\u00a0 A notary commission may be <strong>revoked<\/strong> for notarizing a document with blank spaces.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There may be situations where some blanks need to be filled in by the <strong>receiving party<\/strong>, such as a court form, government form, application form, or another document, where the receiving party will add their information or signature.\u00a0 The relevant document information must be adequately completed so that the signer can give his\/her <strong>acknowledgment<\/strong>, or make an <strong>oath<\/strong> or <strong>affirmation<\/strong>, as appropriate.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Multiple_Signatures\"><\/span>Multiple Signatures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If <strong>multiple signatures<\/strong> (<strong>signature bank<\/strong>) are required on a document, but the signers will sign at different locations or on different dates, (a <strong>split signing<\/strong>), the notary must specify only the name of the signer(s) that appeared before the notary in the notary certificate.\u00a0 A separate notary certificate must be attached for the other signer(s) when they appear before a notary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A signer cannot make an <strong>oath<\/strong> or <strong>affirmation<\/strong> for a <strong>sworn statement<\/strong>, that the facts or statements in a document are true and correct if there are blank spaces in the statement.\u00a0 A signer cannot make an <strong>acknowledgment<\/strong>, to agree to the terms of a document, if
