\"Saint<\/a>Saint Mark, Patron Saint of Notaries and Lawyers<\/h1>\n

Saint Mark<\/strong>, the author of the second Gospel<\/strong>, is the patron saint<\/strong> of notaries<\/strong> and lawyers<\/strong>.\u00a0 His feast day is April 25th<\/sup>.\u00a0 His symbol is the winged lion.\u00a0 Some legends say he was thrown to the lions but the lions refused to attack him.<\/p>\n

He accompanied Saint Peter<\/strong> as a travel companion and interpreter, and wrote down his sermons, creating the Gospel of Mark<\/strong>, probably in Rome<\/strong><\/a><\/span> near the year 60 AD.<\/p>\n

Both he and his mother, Mary, were highly esteemed in the early Church<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/span>Saint Mark at the Last Supper<\/span><\/h2>\n

Mark is believed to be the man who carried water to the house where the Last Supper<\/strong> took place.\u00a0 He witnessed many of the miracles<\/strong> performed by Jesus<\/strong>.\u00a0 He was not one of the 12 apostles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Saint Mark Martyred in Alexandria<\/span><\/h2>\n

In 49 AD, Mark traveled to Alexandria<\/strong>, Egypt<\/strong> and founded the Church of Alexandria<\/strong>.\u00a0 He became bishop of Alexandria and the founder of Christianity in Africa.<\/p>\n

The pagans of Alexandria resented his efforts to turn them away from the worship of traditional gods.\u00a0 In 68 AD, they dragged Mark through the streets with a rope around his neck until he was dead.\u00a0 He died a martyr<\/strong>.\u00a0 When his attackers tried to burn his body, they found it could not be harmed.\u00a0 His followers claimed the body and buried it in the church they built.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Remains Taken to Venice<\/span><\/h2>\n

In 828, relics believed to be the body of Saint Mark were stolen from Alexandria by two Venetian merchants, with the help of two Greek monks, and taken to Venice<\/strong>.\u00a0 The Basilica di San Marco<\/strong>, dedicated to Saint Mark, was built in Venice.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Saint Mark The Record Keeper<\/span><\/h2>\n

In art, he is often depicted writing or holding a book<\/strong> or scroll<\/strong>, perhaps his gospel, or a record book<\/strong>, a symbol of learning and record keeping<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A patron saint<\/strong> is a saint who is venerated as a special intercessor<\/strong> before God.\u00a0 Most patrons have been designated as the result of popular devotion<\/strong> and long-standing custom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
