Grant<\/strong> signed a proclamation admitting Colorado as the 38th state of the United States.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Colorado_Museums_and_Businesses_Special_Deals\"><\/span><!--more-->Colorado Museums and Businesses Special Deals<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some <strong>museums<\/strong> offer free admission and special exhibits, and some businesses offer special deals for customers to celebrate <strong>Colorado Day<\/strong>.\u00a0 You can read more about history and find locations of history museums at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.historycolorado.org\/museums\">History Colorado<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>History Colorado<\/strong> community museums are located in Denver, Fort Garland, Georgetown, Leadville, Montrose, Platteville, Pueblo, and Trinidad.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Native_Americans\"><\/span>Native Americans<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The human <strong>history<\/strong> of Colorado extends back more than 13,000 years.\u00a0 <strong>Native American<\/strong> tribes that lived in the region included the Ancient Pueblo Peoples of the Colorado Plateau, the Apache, <strong>Arapaho<\/strong>, <strong>Cheyenne<\/strong>, Kiowa and Comanche of the Great Plains, the Shoshone of the Yampa River Valley, and the <strong>Ute<\/strong> tribe of the western mountains.\u00a0 Other migrating tribes also hunted in the region.\u00a0 Tribes acquired <strong>horses<\/strong> when the <strong>Spanish explorers<\/strong> arrived.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Spanish_and_French_Explorers\"><\/span>Spanish and French Explorers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The region was first visited by <strong>Spanish explorers<\/strong>, including <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/coronado-expedition-muster-roll-1540\/\"><strong>Coronado<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, in the 1500s.\u00a0 Spanish conquistador <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/notary-with-conquistador-onate-new-mexico-1598\/\"><strong>Juan de Onate<\/strong><\/a><\/span> founded a provincial capital near <strong>Sante Fe<\/strong>, New Mexico in 1598.\u00a0 Santa Fe became a base for excursions in the region.\u00a0 The territory of Colorado was claimed for Spain by <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/ulibarri-claims-colorado-for-spain-1706\/\"><strong>Juan de Ulibarri<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in 1706.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1779, south of Pueblo, Spanish explorer and Governor of New Mexico <strong>Juan Bautista de Anza<\/strong> defeated <strong>Chief Cuerno Verde<\/strong> (Green Horn) and other <strong>Comanches<\/strong> who had conducted raids on <strong>Taos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1787, <strong>de Anza<\/strong> established the settlement of <strong>San Carlos<\/strong> <strong>de Los Jupes<\/strong>, near the confluence of the Arkansas and St. Charles River, near the present-day <strong>Pueblo<\/strong> airport<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0It was a settlement for the defeated Comanche, to make them civilized farmers, but it failed within a year.\u00a0 This was the only Spanish attempt to create a settlement on the <strong>Arkansas River<\/strong>. San Carlos (St. Charles) later became a stagecoach station, then a railroad station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The United States acquired the land of eastern Colorado from <strong>France<\/strong>, as part of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/la-salle-expedition-louisiana-territory-1682\/\"><strong>Louisiana Purchase<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in 1803, when <strong>Thomas Jefferson<\/strong> was President.\u00a0 The central portion of the state was obtained in 1845 when the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/notaries-in-the-republic-of-texas-1836-1846\/\"><strong>Republic of\u00a0Texas<\/strong><\/a><\/span> became a state.\u00a0 The western part was obtained in 1848, as a result of the <strong>Mexican War<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were also <strong>French-Canadian<\/strong> fur trappers and traders in the region, primarily following rivers and trading in <strong>beaver<\/strong> pelts.\u00a0 <strong>La Porte<\/strong>, Colorado was founded by French traders in 1828.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Colorado_Territory_1861\"><\/span>Colorado Territory, 1861<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before statehood, Congress created the <strong>Colorado Territory<\/strong> on February 28, 1861, near the beginning of the <strong>Civil War<\/strong>.\u00a0 The territory was formed from land that was previously part of <strong>Kansas<\/strong> Territory, <strong>Nebraska<\/strong> Territory, <strong>New Mexico<\/strong> Territory and <strong>Utah<\/strong> Territory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Civil war issues and an economic slump delayed attempts to gain statehood during the 1860s.
