maps<\/strong> and for <strong>architectural drawings<\/strong>.\u00a0 A Mylar document presents a challenge to a notary without the experience to handle it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mylar is a trademark of DuPont.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Water-based_Ink\"><\/span>Water-based Ink<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a paper document, a notary could use a rubber stamp with a <strong>water-based ink<\/strong>.\u00a0 The pores of the paper act like a sponge and\u00a0absorb the ink into the document.\u00a0 The notary should use caution to avoid holding the stamp on the document too long.\u00a0 Excess ink may flow onto the document causing a <strong>blurred stamp<\/strong> or allowing ink to <strong>bleed through<\/strong> to the backside where it may interfere with text on a two-sided document.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Mylar document has a <strong>smooth surface<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you use a rubber stamp with a water-based ink on a Mylar document, there are no pores to absorb the ink.\u00a0 Instead, the ink will sit on the surface, will not dry, and will <strong>smear<\/strong> and make a mess.\u00a0 Improperly stamped documents <strong>may be rejected<\/strong> by county recording officials.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9159\" src=\"data:image\/gif,GIF89a%01%00%01%00%80%00%00%00%00%00%FF%FF%FF%21%F9%04%01%00%00%00%00%2C%00%00%00%00%01%00%01%00%00%02%01D%00%3B\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rather than use a water-based ink, there are other types of ink available, such as <strong>pigment-based<\/strong> and <strong>solvent-based industrial inks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>StazOn<\/strong> brand is a readily available solvent-based ink for use on a smooth surface.\u00a0 You can find it in hobby stores, arts and crafts stores, and Walmart.\u00a0 You can purchase a StazOn foam ink pad for about $10, and you should also purchase the companion StazOn <strong>ink solvent<\/strong> cleaner product to use for clean up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9160\" src=\"data:image\/gif,GIF89a%01%00%01%00%80%00%00%00%00%00%FF%FF%FF%21%F9%04%01%00%00%00%00%2C%00%00%00%00%01%00%01%00%00%02%01D%00%3B\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/wp-content\/uploads\/StazOn-cleaner.jpg\" alt=\"StazOn cleaner\" width=\"45\" height=\"150\" \/>Replace your water-based ink pad with the solvent-based inkpad.\u00a0 Try\u00a0several test stamps to make sure the stamp is working properly.\u00a0 Do a <strong>test stamp<\/strong> on a smooth surface such as a plastic bag.\u00a0 I found the solvent-based ink to be <strong>slippery<\/strong> and it has a tendency to slide across the surface.\u00a0 So, use a steady hand with an up and down motion, to avoid smearing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After stamping the Mylar document, I use a cotton-tipped swab with the solvent cleaning fluid to <strong>clean up<\/strong> any excess.\u00a0 Be sure to clean your rubber stamp after use.\u00a0 Solvent-based inks may dissolve your rubber stamp over a period of time.\u00a0 They also <strong>evaporate<\/strong> over time, so I keep mine in a food saver vacuum-sealed plastic bag for longer life.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Permanent_Ink_Pen\"><\/span>Permanent Ink Pen<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A normal ballpoint ink pen will not work on a Mylar document.\u00a0 You will need a <strong>permanent ink pen<\/strong> such as a <strong>Sharpie<\/strong> fine point pen or a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/fisher-space-pen-check-guardian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Fisher Space Pen<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0or a <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/uni-ball-signo-207-anti-fraud-archival-gel-pen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">uni-ball Signo 307<\/a><\/span><\/strong> with
