U.S. Notaries By The Numbers (Infographic)
The National Notary Association (NNA) published this infographic showing interesting notary statistics for the United States.
It shows information about the ages, education, and industries where notaries work, the population of notaries, their length of service as a notary public, and more.
There are over 4 million notaries in the U.S. There are more notaries than teachers and members of the armed forces.
About 40% work in financial services, followed by 18% in legal services, 14% in government agencies, and 11% in health care.
About 3 out of 4 notaries are females.
Over half of all notaries have a college degree.
About 30% of notaries have more than 12 years of experience. Most states appoint notaries to a 4-year commission. So, these experienced notaries are in their fourth term of public office or more.
It also shows that notaries are often asked to perform improper or illegal acts. Colorado notaries must attend notary training and use reasonable care so they can detect and refuse to notarize improper or illegal acts.
